Control
Peer to Peer (P2P) Downloads
P2P
use contributes to:
- Decreased network bandwidth needed for mission critical applications
-
Risk of prosecution stemming from music and motion picture
copyright infringement
-
The introduction of adware, spyware, viruses and worms into
the enterprise
-
Decreased user productivity
-
Possible customer services delays due to network congestion
Blocking
a Peer to Peer service at the firewall is extremly difficult
because blocking simply doesn't work, these services are "port
agile" and are not standards based. They are deliberately
difficult for administrators to detect or control. These packets
cannot be classified simply by looking at packet headers such
as an IP address and port number. Consequently, only the application
level controls provided by a Bluecoat ProxySG secure gateway
appliance are required for the effective control of these
services in the enterprise. |
